Limerick City Quays

Limerick City Council

The City Quay’s project represents a major stage in the implementation of the Limerick City Riverside Improvement Strategy, which aims to provide a high quality waterside environment for public use and enjoyment of the River Shannon, as well as a unique setting for the on-going revitalisation of the city centre.

We have been responsible for the overall Strategy and the public realm improvement contracts implemented to date, acting as lead designer of a multi-disciplinary team and including client liaison, public engagement, tender documentation, contract administration and supervision of works on site.

The project has been successfully delivered and now presents a popular and stimulating waterfront environment of promenades, cantilevered boardwalks, a performance and look-out structure, viewing areas, high quality re-surfacing and street furniture, street lighting and special lighting effects, tree and shrub planting, directional signage and interpretation of natural and built heritage.

The completed scheme reinforces earlier riverside improvement works (also undertaken by Nicholas de Jong Associates) through the realisation of continuous visitor facilities around the key sections of the river, while also complementing the public realm improvements of the City Centre.
